Veterans Programs

The Tasmanian Government is committed to listening and responding to the needs of Tasmania's veteran and ex-serving community.Front cover of the Strategy

Community Policy and Engagement conducts many programs and services for Tasmania's veterans including grant funding, wellbeing initiatives and commemoration events.

Tasmanian Veterans' Employment Strategy

To demonstrate our commitment to championing veteran employment, we have developed Tasmania’s first Veterans’ Employment Strategy.

Today, over 17,500 veterans and ex-serving personnel and their families call Tasmania home. Veterans bring to the community and the economy an incredible set of knowledge, skills, capabilities and experiences.

Veteran Wellbeing Voucher Program

Other initiatives include the Veteran Wellbeing Voucher Program which supports veteran’s participation in healthy activities for their health and wellbeing and to develop social networks.

The free Program is open to eligible Tasmanian veterans who may apply for a voucher of up to $100 to put towards the cost of registration or membership fees at participating gyms and sporting clubs.

Gyms and sports clubs will also benefit by an opportunity to grow their membership and will be reimbursed for each voucher they accept. The program is open to gyms and clubs throughout Tasmania.

Veteran Retreat

Another key project is the Veteran Retreat at Dago Point, Lake Sorell, which provides support for the wellbeing of veterans, recognising that time to recover, heal and re-connect can be critical to their long-term health.

Each year the Government hosts the annual State Government Reception for Tasmanian defence personnel who have been deployed overseas, in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

Community Policy and Engagement also provides advice and support to the Minister for Veterans' Affairs. It works to ensure that ex-serving men and women and their families are able to put their views and concerns forward to government.
